Artist's Description
Each of the eight lacy, venomous, club-like arms of the Blue jelly contain several mouths which transport tiny prey to the jelly's stomach. The Blue jelly range in color from pale blue to dark purple and are considered a delicacy in Japan.
Blue jellies (Catostylus mosaicus) are native to the lagoons of eastern Australia. This one was photographed at the Academy of Sciences, San Francisco, California.
