Description
This Loggerhead Sea Turtle was rescued from a New Jersey power plant in 2013 with a large gap in the bottom right part of her shell. This gap, along with an abnormal curve of her spine and paralysis of her back flippers, left her permanently disabled.
When she arrived at Birch Aquarium in 2014, the juvenile Loggerhead Sea Turtle needed plenty of medical attention. Being part of Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of California San Diego, staff combined veterinary care with high tech solutions. They made a plastic, 3-D printed brace to perfectly match her missing piece of shell. Today, the Loggerhead Sea Turtle, is an ambassador for ocean conservation and greets more than 450,000 visitors every year.
